Tonga Rugby PACIFIC ISLANDS & NEW ZEALAND 2008 Fiji visit and historic tour to Tonga AUSTRALIA DEFEATED NEW ZEALAND UNPRECE First win on New Zealand soil ever The historic Test match: The team preparations really started on the Thursday night with an inspirational and heart wrenching speech from ex- coach Pat Langtry. His address really hit a chord with all the players and each accepted his jersey with a look of confi dence and commitment. The team was ready to turn up and play. The coaches went through their final briefings the following morning and there was defi nitely a very quiet confi dence in the air and an excitement to want to take on the Kiwis. After facing the “haka” the game started with the team under severe pressure. The Kiwi fl anker Whitelock made a break and was cut down just short of the line. Savea, the centre for New Zealand, made a good run before we were penalized for going over the top and not staying on our feet allowing New Zealand to open the score and go up 3-0.
