STATE REPORTS – THE YEAR AHEAD Northern territory THE AGM for the NT Schoolboy Rugby Union was held at the beginning of March. The following have been elected to Executive positions for 2009. Working with the NTRU Coaching and Development staff the following program for the season has been organised for 2009. TERM 1 18 Apr-20 Apr Ashton Park School (England) TERM 2 22 April Senior Schools 10-a-Side Carnival 02 May- 03 May 15-a-Side round robin (selection trial for Schoolboy team) 26 Jun- 02 Jul Australian Division II Championship – Geelong 07 Jul-13Jul TERM 3 31 Jul-02 Aug Australian Division I Schools Championship – Sydney Indigenous Under 16 carnival – Gold Coast 19 Aug-23 Sep Darwin Walla rugby competitions 28 Sep-02 Oct Primary Schools Walla Regional carnivals 04 Oct-09 Oct Australian Under 16 Championship – Sydney 15 TERM 4 October October Secondary Schools Girls competition Primary School Walla Championships The NTIS Coach, Tony Bundock, is again running an elite player squad which includes potential schoolboy players. From May he will also run an associates program – which involves schoolboy players not on NTIS scholarships. The management positions for the 2009 Schoolboy team were advertised at the end of February. The positions will be fi nalised in the next few weeks. The coaching development officers will be working with schools in Katherine, Gove, Tennant Creek and Alice Springs. When the trials, competitions and carnivals are run from their work in these areas they hope to attract players/teams to some of these events. At the NT Schoolboy trials to be held in May a country team will be selected to represent the centres outside of Darwin. Last year we have had players from Alice Springs, Gove, Katherine, Jabiru and Tennant Creek in this team. Players from Gove, Alice Springs and Jabiru were selected in the Schoolboy team for the Division II Championships. The NTRU Coaching and Development Offi cers, Dale Roberson and John Matthews, have again offered their services to the waiting with Physical Education staff in secondary schools and Physical Education cluster co-ordinators for the primary schools to go through and run training programs and coaching sessions especially in the weeks leading up to the different carnivals/ competitions. The NTRU will be continuing with their support by making the facilities at Rugby Park available for all our competitions. They are also paying for the jerseys, socks and shorts for the Schoolboy team. – Greg O’Mullane, President
