We welcome a growing readership and encourage any readers to pass the link onto anyone they know so they also can catch up on the rugby news in schools in Australia. In fact if this is the first time you have found our publication -- you will be pleased to notice that you can easily catch up on our two former issues by simply clicking on the link (cover). 2009 has been a difficult year. Australian Schools Rugby is, like most organisations, suffering because of the global economic crisis. Our very generous and main major sponsor -- the ARU -- has had to reduce its financial support this year. As recorded in our last edition, this has not meant a reduction in their moral and intellectual support to Schools Rugby. Their CEO and General Manager John O'Neill led the way in our important fund-raising luncheon. The ARU still assists with elite technical coaching and in many other ways. The funds raised at this luncheon meant we went 'full steam ahead' with our plans to tour Ireland and the UK later in the year. But just like our recent Championships, we have had to make significant financial cuts and unfortunately we are asking each player and their families to make more sacrifices. We have just completed our dual Championships -- Division II in Geelong and the Novotel Championships at Knox Grammar. Both were a resounding success with the next crop of wonderful players on view to the selectors. Our good friend Novotel were there again. There is a very good offer from Novotel in this issue for accommodation in Sydney for September. This is open to anyone from our readership! We have two incoming tours very soon -- Tonga and New Zealand. We can announce that TNT Express are happy to sponsor us again and apart from helping with our tour later in the year -- they will sponsor the "TNT Series" of Test matches -- the two Internationals against Tonga in Sydney and New Zealand in Brisbane. The Macquarie Bank has been a 'good friend' for many years. This year they have formalised this relationship and have become another of our major sponsors. They will assist our representative teams and this will assist us get our touring team to Ireland and the United Kingdom. Enjoy this edition and we welcome any feedback!
