Kevin Culliver Vic nomination for Volunteer Recognition CONGRATULATIONS to Kevin Culliver, Victoria's nominee in the 2009 National Volunteers Recognition Program. Kevin (pictured) attended the recent John Eales Dinner in Sydney, along with each State nominated volunteer. In accordance with ARU guidelines the following criteria was used in the selection of recipients: • Significant contribution to the sport of Rugby • Innovation and leadership • Demonstration of Community Rugby participation • Meeting an identified Community Rugby need • Meeting an identified region/zone, state or national Rugby need • Contribution of best practice principles • Contribution to Rugby within their State/Territory Union up to and including July 2009. As result of an assessment of each nomination the VRU selected Kevin Culliver to be the Victorian Representative on the National Volunteer Recognition Program. Kevin Culliver began his volunteerism for rugby when a group of past students wanted to introduce rugby into St Bernard's College in Melbourne in 1990. He volunteered to supervise the team even though it was well outside the requirements of the role he had at the College. Eighteen months later he was elected the Honorary Secretary of the VSRU. He raised 4 teams of rugby at St Bernard's before moving to Marcellin College in 1996 and again in turn introduced rugby to that school where 5 teams now flourish. As Honorary Secretary he became the states delegate to Australian Schools Rugby and now is an Executive Member, he with the expansion of the game in Victoria volunteered to sit on every different development committee raised in the last 16 years for youth rugby in Victoria. Kevin as a volunteer has been associated with the delivery of nearly every rugby event in Victoria over the last 15 years and has delivered almost every national schools rugby event as well in that time. His only paid rugby work to date has been the Competition Managers position running the Rugby Sevens at the Melbourne Commonwealth Games.
