We now have a genuine Combined states team at the National championships as they are selected from all states. effectively this means this team is selected from the best from the remaining division ii teams (Lloyd Mcdermott team, tasmania, Northern territory, South Australia – as well as Victoria ii and Western Australia ii) and also boys who did not make NSW, Queensland or Act teams. in 2010 this team was very competitive with a narrow loss to NSW i and victories against Victoria and Act. two boys made it to the top team that toured Samoa and New Zealand – Sam Reiser (Gregory terrace QLd) and tim duchesne (Knox Grammar NSW). From the above it is easy to see that if you are good enough and missed by your state selectors it is still possible to make the ‘top team’. Good luck to all who have that ambition! CoaChinG resourCes VISIT The ARU website http://www.rugby.com.au/ to find lots of resources that will help rugby coaches. There are videos that can be down-loaded. There are drills used by Wallaby Coach Robbie Deans. Great resources also on scrummaging, lineouts, kick-offs and break-down skills and drills. There is a resource on Rugby Laws which will also be useful to coaches and players. combined STATeS TeAm – novoTel AUSTrAliAn chAmpionShipS and selection policy to make the AUSTrAliAn SchoolS TeAm ASRN_no8_may_11.indd 14 13/5/11 9:15:29 AM
